Dining Options
The southern Sunshine Coast boasts a unique and eclectic array of dining options. Whether your favourite is Greek, Italian, Indian or Japanese, there is definitely something to suit everyone’s taste.
At the top end of the restaurant scene you’ll find fine dining establishments that excel in food and wine pairings. Being a coastal community, seafood is a popular ingredient and can include salmon, halibut and a variety of shellfish including crab, clams and mussels. Local, organic fruits and vegetables are often used as well, giving meals unbelievable flavour. If you’re looking for somewhere a little less gourmet, you can try a pub/sports bar hybrid where the beer and sports fanatic will feel right at home. There are also many coffee and tea shops where you can spend a relaxing afternoon or skip straight to dessert and visit any of the Coast’s delicious bakeries, chocolate and ice cream shops. |
Local Sips
The craft brewery scene has really exploded on the southern Sunshine Coast over the past decade, with multiple local, award-winning breweries, cideries and distilleries, many of which are featured on the Sunshine Coast portion of the BC Ale Trail.
See towering hop vines at the active beer farm, Persephone Brewing Company and sample house gin and vodka cocktails at The 101 Brewhouse + Distillery, the Coast’s first craft distillery. Embrace the Coastal lifestyle at Tapworks Brewing Company and visit the idyllic rural property of Bruinwood Estate Distillery. Make sure to check out happy hour at Batch44 Brewery and try the newly renovated TwentyTwo Taphouse, both in Sechelt. If cider is your drink of choice, a visit to Brickers Cider in Sechelt, Banditry Cider in Gibsons and Sunday Cider in Roberts Creek is a must! |
Markets
The annual Farmers' Market season on the southern Sunshine Coast is always much anticipated. Vegetables, artwork, jewelry and more can all be found at farmers markets that pop up across the southern Coast throughout the year.
Seasonal farmers' markets include the Sechelt Farmers' and Artisans' Market, held on Saturdays from April to September in Downtown Sechelt and the Gibsons Farmers' Market, located at Persephone Brewing Company's hop yard and held on Sunday mornings from May long weekend to Labour Day. For local goods all year round visit the Farm Gate Market at Roberts Creek Hall. They operate every Wednesday afternoon between 1:30pm and 5:30pm. The Gibsons Public Market celebrated its re-opening in March 2017 and has become a community gathering place featuring local merchants, an award-winning bistro, a collect-hold-release aquarium and rental facilities. Visit the market Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm. |
